PSS Review {Hats, Hats, Hats}

Hats, Hats, Hats

Focus: People all around the world wear different hats for different reasons. But God cares more about our hearts than our hats.

Scripture: Ezekiel 36:26a

Target Age: 2-5 years

Lesson:

This lesson focused on hats worn by different people for different reasons around the world.

We read the book Hats, Hats, Hats by Ann Morris asking the kids questions along the way like:

Why do you think people in Mexico wear hats like this?

A man wears this hat to work, what do you think he does at his work?

This hat is interesting have you ever seen one like it?

After reading the hat book we talked about how God cares more about our hearts than our hats and we know that because in Ezekiel 36:26a the Bible says that God will give us a new heart and a new spirit.

Talk about what we mean when we say the word “heart”. It is the part of you and feels and loves. Getting a new heart means that God will help us to love him more than anything else! We took the kids through a series of oral questions to help them apply the lesson. Start the statement and pause at the break for the kids to answer.

Our hearts are black and dirty because of _____________. {sin}

But Jesus made our hearts _________________. {clean}

How did he do this? {by dying on the cross for us}

Does Jesus care about hearts or hats more? {hearts}

Does he care about the hearts of children all over the world? {yes!}

Jesus wants children who wear all different kinds of hats need to hear know and love him because Jesus loves children!

Activities:

Try on hats!

We brought several hats for the kids to wear. They each got to pick one and we went around the table talking about where the hats was from and why people there might wear a hat like that.

Find the Bible book –

This isn’t technically an activity, but my co-teacher used this method in our class and it was brilliant.

When introducing the scripture for the day have the kids recite the books of the Bible (ours know them by song) and stop singing when they get to the book that the scripture is in. I thought this was a great idea! It was interactive for the kids and they really seemed to enjoy it.

Craft: Foam heart coloring

Supplies – foam hearts, markers

Write “Jesus Loves Children” on the hearts and then have the children draw happy faces of children wearing hats all over their hearts.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you found this lesson helpful in your planning, please feel free to comment!
