PSS Review {God Sends Plagues on Egypt}

God Sends Plagues on Egypt

Scripture: Exodus 7:14-11:10

Target Age: 4-5 years

Focus: God wants people to know that He is a great God {Exodus 11:9}

Lesson:

This scripture passage has a lot of content with quite a bit of detail, some of which may be difficult for the children to understand. I recommend reading it from a Bible designed for children like The Jesus Storybook Bible, or The Gospel Story Bible. The Jesus Storybook Bible has videos available for purchase as well. Our church purchases a set and it is a nice change of pace for the lesson from time-to-time.

Where is Jesus in this story?

The plaques were designed by God to show that he was the one true God. God promised Abraham that one of his sons would be the promised one to save the world. In order for Jesus to come as he promised, God had to get his people out of Egypt

Discussion Questions:

{1} Why didn’t God stop the plagues after the first one? Why did he keep sending plague after plague? {God wants people to know that He is a great God}

{2} When we hear stories about God’s power, how should we feel? {We should fear Him, realizing how weak we are in comparison to His greatness}

Pray:

Ask God to cause us to fear him and to not be hard-hearted like Pharoah.

Activities:

Craft – Frog puppet

Supplies – two paper plates per child, colored construction paper, glue, scissors, stapler, tape, green crayons or markers

Directions – Cut two green eye sockets, two white eyeballs, and one red tongue for each child. Each child need two paper plates, cut one of them in half. Fold the whole plate in half to form the frog’s mouth. Staple one plate half to the top of the folded plate and the other half to the bottom leaving the back open so the kids can stick their hands in the puppet.

The kids can color the outside and inside of the frog green and then glue the eyeball onto the eye socket and the socket onto the plate. Then they will glue their tongue on the inside of the frog’s mouth.

Puppet Play- Froggy Interviews

I turned our classroom table on it’s side and had the kids get behind it with their frogs. Then I asked questions about the story to the frogs and the kids answered my questions in froggy voices. It was really entertaining. I was cracking up!

Visual – Water to blood

Supplies – clear cup filled with water, q-tip, red food coloring

Saturate the tip of the q-tip with food coloring and dip in the water. Watch as the water turns red. Talk about how Pharoah’s magicians did the same thing. Share how God did a miracle and how it was different {even the water in the pots was blood}

Memory Verse: Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
